Marrakech International Film Festival Honors David Cronenberg

The Marrakech International Film Festival paid tribute this Monday evening at the city’s Palais des Congrès to Canadian filmmaker and producer David Cronenberg. He received the festival’s Golden Star award from German actress Diane Kruger.

In his acceptance speech, Cronenberg expressed heartfelt thanks to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, president of the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation. He shared his pride in receiving the prestigious Golden Star, which recognizes his half-century-long career, and praised Moroccan hospitality and the vibrant cultural atmosphere of the event.

Diane Kruger highlighted Cronenberg’s indelible mark on cinema, describing his work as a unique blend of the strange and the profound. She noted that his films, while exploring horror and psychological thrillers, are deeply rooted in emotional depth, challenging perceptions of reality and identity.

The evening was highlighted by the screening of his latest film, « The Shrouds ».

Cronenberg has established himself as a true auteur, known for his innovative and personal filmmaking. From his beginnings in underground cinema and horror films, he transitioned into deeply resonant dramas, earning international acclaim as one of the world’s most influential directors. His films have garnered critical praise and numerous awards, including honors at Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.
