Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch is representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the high-level “One Water Summit,” which began today, Tuesday, in Riyadh. The summit aims to address global water scarcity and related challenges.
Mr. Akhannouch arrived in Riyadh on Monday evening, accompanied by Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka. Upon his arrival at King Khalid International Airport, he was welcomed by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Secretary of the Riyadh Region.
The “One Water Summit,” announced on the sidelines of COP28 in partnership with Saudi Arabia, aims to strengthen global water governance.
This summit is being held alongside the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16). It brings together global leaders, local communities, financial institutions, businesses, philanthropic organizations, and experts from around the world to exchange knowledge and explore innovative, sustainable solutions.
Led by Saudi Arabia in collaboration with France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank, the initiative will feature prominent participants, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and World Bank President Ajay Banga.
This year’s annual forum will host hundreds of policymakers, business leaders, and experts in the Saudi Green Initiative Pavilion in the COP16 Green Zone.
Specialized sessions will be organized to share best practices, showcase the latest innovations, and assess progress made in achieving the initiative’s goals, with the overarching aim of fostering collaboration and accelerating efforts toward a sustainable future.
