The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, emphasized on Tuesday in Rabat that the announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon is a positive development. However, he stressed the importance of respecting and building upon it to safeguard the country’s unity and territorial integrity.

In a joint press conference with his Djiboutian counterpart, Mr. Bourita commended international efforts to halt hostilities in Lebanon and end repeated attacks on its people and territories. He noted, however, the regrettable violations of the ceasefire and called for strict adherence to enable the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 concerning southern Lebanon.

The minister highlighted the necessity of strengthening Lebanon’s national institutions to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco remains committed to supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reaffirming its dedication to the country’s stability.

On the broader Middle East issue, Mr. Bourita stressed the importance of resolving the Palestinian question as the optimal path to achieving peace and stability in the region. He advocated for a two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
