The historic Bahia Palace in Marrakech hosted the official opening of the 17th edition of « The Night of Galleries » on Friday evening. This event aims to foster communication and connection between artists from different generations.
Organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication in collaboration with ICESCO and under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the event is part of the celebrations marking Marrakech as the Islamic Culture Capital for 2024.
The ceremony featured a heartfelt tribute to Omar Bourkhba, a prominent painter born in Marrakech in 1945. Starting his artistic journey at just 13, his work matured significantly during the 1960s. Bourkhba expressed his delight at being honored in such a prestigious setting.
Guests were treated to tours of exhibition halls within the palace, showcasing a variety of artistic creations, including paintings and sculptures. The evening also provided opportunities to visit private exhibitions and galleries participating in this unique event.
Accompanied by traditional Marrakchi music, « The Night of Galleries » brought together a diverse audience of art enthusiasts and professionals. This annual event aims to highlight the works of established artists while promoting emerging talents across various plastic arts disciplines.
The celebration involves galleries across Morocco, remaining open until midnight to give a broad audience access to the latest artistic trends. This edition also honors key figures in the Moroccan art scene.
