Kylian Mbappé has reiterated his dedication to playing for the French national team, despite missing recent matches, emphasizing that nothing is greater than representing Les Bleus.

The 2018 World Cup winner missed France’s UEFA Nations League games against Israel and Italy last month. Head coach Didier Deschamps attributed his absence to physical and mental challenges faced by the player.

Mbappé, the team captain, also skipped another call-up in October due to a minor thigh injury, even though he played for his club, Real Madrid.

In an interview with Canal+, Mbappé stated: « I’ve always said there’s nothing more important than the national team. My love for the French team has never wavered. »

Deschamps’ comments on his mental state sparked speculation about depression, which Mbappé firmly denied. « There are people who genuinely suffer from depression and need help. That’s a serious matter, but I’ve never claimed to be depressed, » he clarified.

Nevertheless, Mbappé voiced frustration over what he considers unfair treatment: « People expect so much from me, more than they did from my predecessor, Hugo Lloris. »

Addressing doubts about his loyalty to the French team, he referred to a nose injury he sustained during last summer’s Euros: « I’ve always prioritized the French national team, even at the cost of my nose. »

Despite his brilliance, including a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final, Mbappé’s scoring rate has recently dipped, with only two goals in his last 12 appearances.
