Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Omar Hilale, emphasized this Friday in Rabat that the Global South, with its vast diversity, represents a call for dialogue, inclusion, and greater respect for state sovereignty.
Speaking at a workshop during the 13th annual Atlantic Dialogues, Hilale stated that whenever the South unites and moves beyond ideological differences, it gains the power to influence international institutions and contribute to UN reforms.
Despite ongoing conflicts and tensions, Hilale highlighted the South’s role as a symbol of hope and global solidarity. He pointed out the stark inequalities between the North and South, noting that 54 of the 56 current global conflicts occur in the South. He advocated for fairer global governance, acknowledging the South’s significant demographic and economic contributions.
