Following recommendations from economic analysts, Moroccan export professionals are emphasizing the importance of establishing a maritime trade route between the port of Agadir and Dakar, Senegal. This initiative is seen as a practical solution to address some of the recurring challenges faced by Moroccan exporters.
The proposal comes after a protocol agreement was signed on Wednesday in Agadir by Karim Achengli, President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, and Gregory Darlin, Director of « Atlas Marine. » The project aims to boost trade between Morocco and sub-Saharan African countries by reducing road transport costs and increasing the efficiency of goods and truck transportation. Additionally, it represents a tangible example of South-South cooperation.
Export professionals focusing on West and Central Africa have often pointed out transport challenges, particularly long shipping times, as obstacles to increasing trade with continental partners. This new maritime route has the potential to be a game-changer.
