Marrakech-Safi: A Key Driver of Morocco’s Economy and Global Attractiveness
The Marrakech-Safi region has cemented its status as a vital economic engine in Morocco, recording remarkable investment performance between January and November 2024.
With the effective implementation of the national strategy for private investment development and strong institutional support, the region is emerging as an economic, tourism, and industrial hub. It is also gearing up for major global events such as the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
During this period, 635 new projects were approved, reflecting a 51% increase compared to the previous year. These projects represent a total investment of 93.4 billion dirhams and are expected to create 21,266 jobs (+14%).
Tourism leads in job creation, accounting for 48% of the opportunities through 308 projects, supported by successful structuring initiatives and the incentives provided by the new investment charter.
Geographical Distribution and Strategic Sectors
- Marrakech: 416 projects (28.1 billion dirhams, 9,164 jobs).
- Al Haouz: 95 projects (6,145 jobs).
- Asfi: 28 projects (50.5 billion dirhams), driven by industrial projects like those led by OCP.
Other provinces, such as Rehamna, Essaouira, and Chichaoua, contribute with diverse projects in industry, tourism, and services.
Vision for 2030
Mohamed Amine Sbibi, acting director of the Regional Tourism Council, highlighted 2024 as a landmark year for investments, thanks to the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The region aims to position itself as an international economic center by leveraging its competitiveness, infrastructure, and appeal to multinational companies.
