During the week of December 9 to 15, 27 people lost their lives, and 2502 others were injured, including 103 seriously, in 1857 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the main causes of these accidents, ranked by significance, include:
- Driver inattention.
- Failure to respect right of way.
- Excessive speed.
- Pedestrian inattention.
- Failure to maintain safe distances.
- Disregarding stop signs.
- Loss of vehicle control.
- Changing lanes without signaling.
- Running red lights.
- Driving on the wrong side of the road.
- Illegal lane changes.
- Driving in prohibited directions.
- Dangerous overtaking.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol.
Regarding traffic law enforcement, security services recorded 49,826 violations, filed 8054 reports referred to the public prosecutor, and collected 41,772 fines. The total revenue from these fines amounted to MAD 9,302,125.
The statement also noted that 5769 vehicles were impounded, 8054 documents were confiscated, and 332 vehicles were immobilized.
