Lunar Robot to Boost « Chang’e-8 » Mission
Chinese scientists plan to design a multifunctional lunar robot for the 2028 « Chang’e-8 » mission. Proposed by researchers from leading universities, the 100-kg robot will serve as a mobile charging station and conduct complex experiments in harsh lunar conditions. It will also ensure operational safety for landers. The project tackles technical challenges such as autonomous navigation and surviving extreme cold at the Moon’s South Pole. Together with « Chang’e-7, » set for launch in 2026, « Chang’e-8 » will lay the foundation for a lunar research station.
