Morocco’s Diplomatic Success in Latin America: Key Milestones in 2024

2024 has been a pivotal year for Morocco’s diplomacy in Latin America regarding the Sahara issue. Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, separatist narratives have significantly diminished in this part of the world.

During his speech marking the 49th anniversary of the Green March, King Mohammed VI emphasized the importance of collective efforts in defending Morocco’s territorial unity. This unified approach has led to widespread support from Latin American nations.

In October, Ecuador suspended its recognition of the self-proclaimed « Sahrawi Republic, » followed by Panama’s decision to cut diplomatic ties with the entity. These moves signify a shift in the region’s stance on the Sahara issue.

Paraguay’s Senate officially backed Morocco’s autonomy plan, deeming it the sole viable solution. Brazil’s Senate and Peruvian lawmakers also expressed support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.

The establishment of the Morocco-Latin America-Caribbean Economic Forum and diplomatic efforts have helped discredit Polisario’s separatist agenda. Moroccan diplomacy continues to garner credibility and dismantle long-standing myths.
