Global Population Growth in 2024

In 2024, the global population reached 8.156 billion people, marking an increase of 82 million compared to the previous year (8.083 billion), according to estimates from the German Foundation for World Population.

The 8-billion milestone was surpassed in November 2022. The United Nations predicts that the global population will exceed 9 billion in 2037 and could rise to 10 billion in the second half of the century.

According to the German Foundation, although the global population continues to grow, this increase is gradually slowing. The current average fertility rate worldwide is 2.2 children per woman.

The foundation also highlighted that population growth is particularly rapid in Africa, where the population is expected to double within the next two decades.
