Seizure of 3.5 Tons of Drugs at Guerguerat Border
A joint security operation involving the national police, customs, and the royal gendarmerie at the Guerguerat border post south of Dakhla successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs on Monday evening. The intercepted cargo consisted of 3 tons and 575 kilograms of cannabis resin (“chira”) carried on an international transport truck registered in Morocco.
According to a security source, the truck underwent a thorough inspection with trained sniffer dogs, uncovering the drugs hidden within a shipment of frozen fish. The truck’s driver, a 29-year-old Moroccan citizen, was arrested.
A preliminary investigation has been launched under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the exact circumstances of the case, identify all parties involved, and trace the extent of these criminal activities both nationally and internationally.
This operation is part of ongoing and intensified efforts by various security services at the Guerguerat border crossing to combat international drug trafficking and transnational crimes.
