Another Case of Irregular Migration Between Morocco and Spain

The town of Cartajena, located in the province of Granada, Spain, witnessed the arrival of a boat carrying 30 Moroccan migrants on Monday, December 30. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of irregular migration across the Mediterranean Sea.
The boat, locally referred to as “Phantom,” departed from the shores of Nador, a prominent launch point for these hazardous journeys.
According to media sources, the migrants arrived on Spanish shores in good health, with no injuries or emergencies reported.
Upon their arrival, Spanish authorities provided initial medical care and necessary assistance before transferring them to a temporary shelter, where they are being processed according to legal procedures.
This event occurs amid a steady rise in irregular migration attempts from Morocco to Europe, driven by the challenging economic and social conditions many young people face.
Despite the significant risks, small boats remain the primary choice for those seeking a better life. The beaches of Nador and surrounding areas continue to serve as key departure points, leveraging their geographical proximity to Spanish coasts.
As the number of migrants increases, authorities in both countries face growing challenges in curbing this phenomenon and ensuring the safety of lives at sea.
