Farewell to 2024, Welcome 2025
The world rings in 2025 on Tuesday night, bidding farewell to a year marked by key events such as the Olympic Games in France, Donald Trump’s return to power in the United States, Bashar al-Assad’s flight from Syria, and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
2024 is likely to be remembered as the hottest year on record, with climate-driven disasters causing widespread devastation from Europe’s plains to Nepal’s valleys.
In Sydney, dubbed the « world’s New Year’s capital, » the celebration featured nine tons of fireworks launched from the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. « Seeing all these beautiful colors and being surrounded by so many people is truly wonderful, » said Ruth Rosy, a 71-year-old retired nurse.
From Trump’s return to the White House to the end of Assad’s regime in Syria, 2024 has been a year of profound change, leaving hope for a brighter future.
