Local Prison Administration in Ouad Zem Denies Claims of a Prisoner’s “Mysterious Death”
The administration of the local prison in Ouad Zem denied on Thursday allegations concerning the “mysterious death of a prisoner” in its facility.
In a clarification statement, the administration responded to rumors circulating on social media suggesting a “mysterious death of a prisoner” and “arrival at the hospital already deceased.” It clarified that the inmate in question, A.F., suffered from a chronic heart condition and was under regular medical supervision.
According to the statement, the inmate was transferred to the hospital on January 1, 2025, following a medical emergency, where he passed away as documented in the death certificate. The detainee’s family and the competent public prosecutor’s office were duly informed.
The statement also noted that the detainee had received a family visit on December 31, 2024, during which his health appeared normal. He had undergone multiple medical examinations within the facility and at a public hospital, the most recent being on December 23, 2024.
Given the severity of the false allegations, the administration announced its decision to file a complaint with the competent judicial authorities.
