Shanghai Airlines, a subsidiary of China Eastern, is set to launch a new air route linking Shanghai and Casablanca on January 19, according to Chinese media reports.

The service will feature three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, connecting Shanghai Pudong International Airport with Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, with a stopover in Marseille.

According to « Shine, » a website associated with the “Shanghai Daily” newspaper, flights will depart Shanghai at 1:55 AM (local time) and arrive in Casablanca at 1:10 PM (local time). Return flights will depart Casablanca at 5:10 PM (local time) and arrive in Shanghai the following day at 4:50 PM (local time).

The flights will be operated on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which feature 285 seats, including 26 business-class seats. As reported by « China Daily, » this new route marks China Eastern Airlines’ second destination in Africa, following the launch of the Shanghai-Cairo route last December.

The launch coincides with the Chinese New Year celebrations, held between late January and mid-February. Also known as the Spring Festival, this event marks the world’s largest human migration period.

Since 2016, Morocco and China have strengthened their ties, particularly after Morocco’s decision to exempt Chinese citizens from visa requirements, making Morocco a favored travel destination. Established in 1988 and headquartered in Shanghai, China Eastern Airlines is China’s second-largest airline in terms of passenger numbers, with a modern fleet of over 600 aircraft.
