On the evening of Sunday, January 5, a massive fire broke out in the Moklata Forest on the outskirts of Tétouan, destroying vast stretches of vegetation and causing widespread panic among nearby residents.

Thick plumes of smoke filled the sky, forcing some families to evacuate their homes as a precautionary measure. The incident prompted an urgent response from local authorities and civil protection teams, who faced significant challenges in combating the rapidly spreading flames, fueled by strong winds.

Described as one of the most severe fires in the region, the blaze demanded exceptional efforts from firefighters, who rushed to the scene immediately upon receiving the alert. Despite recent rainfall in Tétouan, the sudden fire proved difficult to control.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. The Royal Gendarmerie has launched an urgent investigation under the supervision of the Tétouan public prosecutor to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

In the early hours of Monday, civil protection teams continued their efforts to extinguish the remaining flames. So far, more than 7 hectares of forest near Jbel Bouanan, east of the city, have been consumed by the fire.
