Trial of MP Yasmine Lamghour Postponed to February 11, 2025
The Rabat Court of First Instance postponed the trial of Yasmine Lamghour, a Member of Parliament from the National Rally of Independents, to Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Ishaq Charia, the lawyer for the complainant Saïd Tounarti, revealed in a statement: “In a surprising turn of events, the Rabat court decided to summon Aziz Akhannouch and granted MP Yasmine Lamghour additional time.”
Two previous sessions were held. The first, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, was adjourned. The second session, held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, also ended in a postponement to allow time for reviewing the case and preparing the defense, with the case referred to a different judicial panel.
This trial stems from a direct complaint related to press issues filed by Saïd Tounarti, a senior member and municipal councilor of the same party in Rabat, on October 30, 2024.
The MP faces charges of “defamation, insults, spreading false allegations, and incitement,” according to the complaint. The allegations are based on a video under ten minutes long in which Yasmine Lamghour, a prominent figure in the party, delivered a campaign speech before an electoral gathering in Rabat.
Standing alongside her on the platform was Saad Benmbarek, a candidate in the Ocean district, who ultimately won the elections on September 12, 2024.
