Cocaine Found at Sea: Investigation Underway
In a new development in the drug trafficking case involving narcotics found in seawater, the National Brigade of Judicial Police has stepped in after waves washed up a significant quantity of cocaine on New Year’s Eve on a beach between M’diq and Fnideq.
In the early hours of the new year, around 64 kilograms of cocaine, packed into four bundles, were discovered on a beach near the « Restinga » area.
Following this discovery, a family member from the Oued Al-Dhawiates area, originally from Fnideq, filed a complaint with the police. He claimed that strangers had threatened his family with death, demanding the return of the drugs they alleged to be theirs.
In response, the judicial authorities quickly intervened, arresting three individuals aged between 22 and 38, who were behind the threats. These individuals, from various cities, were referred to the regional judicial police unit in Tetouan for further investigation.
Security sources disclosed that the seized cocaine is only part of a larger operation. The packaging and the quantity suggest that the drugs might have been smuggled from Asian or South American countries. Authorities also suspect that local drug lords, who previously specialized in hashish trafficking, have shifted their focus to cocaine. Many of them remain wanted for international trafficking cases.
