Winners Announced at the First Edition of the Press House Award in Tangier

On Friday evening in Tangier, the winners of the inaugural 2024 Press House Award for Culture and Media were announced, along with tributes to pioneering journalists and intellectuals.

During a ceremony held at the Press House in Tangier, awards were presented in the presence of prominent figures, including Younes El Tazi, Governor of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, Abdelkhalek Marzouki, Governor of Fahs-Anjra, Abdeljabbar El Rachdi, Secretary of State for Social Integration, Omar Moro, President of the Regional Council, Mohammed Salem Cherkaoui, Director of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, Jamal Choubki, Palestinian Ambassador to Morocco, as well as members of the media, cultural sector, and civil society.

Award Recipients:

  • The Best Media Work Award promoting Tangier’s image went to Abdelrahim Tifnout for his program « Kan Ya Makan » on 2M, a five-episode series on Tangier’s history.
  • The Best Cultural Work Award was given to Abdelkhaleq Najmi for his book “Secret Conversations about Tangier.”
  • The Tangier Mediterranean Award for Best Economic Media Work was shared between Hamza Metiouy (for an article in “Al-Sahifa” about the Tangier Med port) and Bouchra Hadiki (for a Tamazight TV program titled “Tangier: A Growing Economic Hub in the Kingdom”).
  • The Best Economic Research Award was jointly awarded to Sofia Fikroud (for a report on “Brown Algae and Mediterranean Invaders”) and Abdelrafie Zaanoun (for his study on “Morocco’s Role in Migration Governance”).
  • The Migration and Moroccans Abroad Award was shared between Farhana Ayach (for a Medi 1 program on “Moroccan Migrants in Gabon”) and Abdellah Tijani (for a Hespress report titled “The Great Escape”).

Abdelatif Bensfia, Director of the Higher Institute of Information and Communication and head of the jury, praised the high quality of submissions, emphasizing their role in highlighting Tangier’s significance.

Said Kobrit, President of the Press House, stated that the award aims to encourage efforts to market Morocco’s image and Tangier’s universal influence.

The evening featured heartfelt tributes to prominent figures, including veteran journalist Seddik Maânino, Abdelaziz Boujdaini (interim director of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center), and others.
