Barcelona Crushes Real Madrid to Claim the Super Cup
FC Barcelona secured their first title of 2025 with an emphatic 5-2 victory against archrival Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final. The match, held at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, showcased Barcelona’s dominance and high-stakes drama.
Real Madrid struck first in the 5th minute when Kylian Mbappé capitalized on a rapid counter-attack. The French star outmaneuvered Alejandro Baldé before slotting the ball past Wojciech Szczęsny.
The Catalans leveled in the 22nd minute through a well-orchestrated move. Jules Koundé set up Robert Lewandowski, who assisted Lamine Yamal. Yamal dribbled past the Madrid defense and scored past Thibaut Courtois.
At the 36th minute, Eduardo Camavinga’s foul on Gavi led to a penalty, converted by Lewandowski. Moments later, Raphinha’s powerful header, courtesy of a Koundé cross, made it 3-1.
Baldé’s clinical finish during stoppage time extended Barcelona’s lead to 4-1 by halftime.
In the second half, Raphinha scored again in the 48th minute following a superb through-ball from Gavi. Despite Szczęsny’s red card in the 56th minute for a foul on Mbappé, Real could only add a second goal via Rodrygo’s free-kick.
This victory allowed Barcelona to avenge last season’s final defeat and secure their 15th Super Cup title, cementing their position as the competition’s most successful team.
