Government Reaffirms Commitment to the Amazigh Language
The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, reaffirmed last Sunday in Agadir the government’s dedication to implementing the official status of the Amazigh language.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the celebration of the Amazigh New Year 2975, Mr. Akhannouch highlighted the progress made in integrating the Amazigh language, particularly within public administrations and the education system.
He expressed deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the constitutional recognition of Amazigh and for declaring January 14th, the first day of the Amazigh New Year, an official holiday in Morocco. Mr. Akhannouch emphasized that this celebration serves as an opportunity to showcase a cultural heritage shared by all Moroccans.
During the event, attended by the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Saïd Amzazi, and the President of the Regional Council, Karim Achengli, Mr. Akhannouch visited the Ibn Zaidoun Garden, where he explored an exhibition of artisanal cooperatives and local products, showcasing the craftsmanship of traditional artisans.
At the Agadir Oufella Kasbah site, a tasting area featured exquisite Amazigh dishes alongside musical performances by renowned Amazigh artists.
Until January 17th, the Agadir Municipality is hosting a vibrant program to celebrate « Id n Yennayer, » organized in partnership with the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the Regional Tourism Council, and the Timitar Festival Association. This initiative aligns with the royal decree of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which made January 14th an official public holiday, further acknowledging Amazigh culture as a cornerstone of Moroccan identity.
This year’s « Id n Yennayer » celebration features a diverse program spanning 12 locations across the city, including public squares, gardens, and Agadir’s promenade, offering residents and visitors a unique festive experience.
