Five-Year Prison Sentence for Founder of « Alfarsha in Fez » Facebook Page

On Monday, January 13, 2025, the misdemeanor chamber of the Fez First Instance Court sentenced the founder of the Facebook page « Alfarsha in Fez » to five years in prison. The ruling also included a fine of 200,000 dirhams and the confiscation of electronic equipment used in the alleged crimes, sparking widespread controversy in local circles.

The court’s decision also granted financial compensation to the victims. The General Directorate of National Security was awarded 50,000 dirhams, while affected police officers received individual compensations of 30,000 dirhams each. Other victims were granted compensations ranging between 15,000 and 20,000 dirhams, with some accepting symbolic damages of one dirham.

This sentence followed thorough investigations conducted under the supervision of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, leading to the arrest of the defendant in the Al Massira neighborhood of Bensouda.

The accused faced multiple charges, including insulting judges and public officials, spreading false allegations, defaming individuals, and offending the Islamic religion, resulting in severe psychological harm to the victims, who filed dozens of complaints against him.
