Measles Cases in Moroccan Prisons
The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration reported that as of Wednesday, 79 inmates across 13 prison facilities have contracted measles, locally known as « Bouhamroun. » Among them are 7 minors, 2 women, and a child accompanying his mother. Twenty-seven cases have recovered after following the prescribed treatment protocol.
The cases are distributed as follows:
- 25 at Tangier 2 local prison (24 in isolation, 1 receiving treatment at a public hospital).
- 6 at Ain Borja local prison (5 in isolation, 1 hospitalized).
- 5 at Mohammedia local prison.
- 3 at El Arjat 1 local prison.
- 2 at Kénitra central prison, Bourkaiz prison in Fes, Benslimane, and Souk El Arbaa prisons.
- 1 case each at Bouarfa, Kalaat Sraghna, Tetouan, Berkane, and Tan-Tan prisons.
Additionally, seven staff members, including a doctor, were infected and are under treatment. In response, 11,620 inmates and 332 employees voluntarily received vaccinations under the supervision of regional health and social protection officials.
Prison facilities remain actively engaged in preventing the disease’s spread, adhering to official guidelines and coordinating closely with relevant authorities.
