A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed this Wednesday in Rabat between Morocco’s Supreme Council of Judicial Authority and Belgium’s High Council of Justice. The agreement aims to establish a general framework for enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Mohamed Abdennabaoui, First President of the Court of Cassation and Deputy President of the Supreme Council of Judicial Authority, representing Morocco, and Ms. Hilde Meuleman, President of the Belgian Office, alongside Ms. Valérie Delfosse, Ms. Vanessa De Franckuin, and Ms. Lucia Dreesser, members of the Belgian Council.
According to a joint statement, the MoU, rooted in the shared values and principles of the two nations, seeks to strengthen the rule of law and foster ongoing bilateral collaboration through the implementation of jointly agreed activities.
The cooperation areas outlined include judicial independence, judicial governance, court efficiency, digital transformation of courts, judicial inspection, and the management of judges’ professional status. It also encompasses training, professional development, and other mutually relevant fields.
Both parties committed to exchanging information, tools, and best practices to enhance their respective expertise, conducting analytical and evaluation studies upon request, and providing opinions within their institutional mandates.
Additionally, they aim to offer specialized technical assistance, create working groups, and co-organize or participate in conferences and seminars to bolster this collaboration.
