Algerian authorities have released 36 Moroccan youths who were detained in their prisons after completing their sentences. The operation took place at the Jūj Bghāl border crossing.
The Moroccan Association for Assistance to Migrants in Difficult Situations, based in Oujda, revealed that these youths were held for extended periods, with some spending over five months in administrative detention after completing their prison sentences. The released individuals hail from various Moroccan cities, including Fes, Oujda, Berkane, Taza, Meknes, Sale, Taounate, Tangier, Ouezzane, Beni Mellal, Ksar El Kebir, Aïn Beni Mathar, and Demnate.
The association emphasized that repatriation operations often face technical and procedural challenges, with many Moroccans still under administrative detention awaiting release.
In this context, the association continues its efforts to address the issue by raising it in international meetings and forums, the most recent being the International Conference on Missing Persons and Enforced Disappearances held in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 15 and 16.
Additionally, it continues to monitor cases of missing persons, prisoners, and detained migrants, which exceed 483 in Algeria, along with other cases in Tunisia and Libya.
