Moroccans Lead Foreign Contributions to Spain’s Social Security System
Spain’s Ministry of Integration, Social Security, and Migration has reported that over 342,318 Moroccans were registered in the country’s social security system by the end of 2024.
According to data released by the ministry on Friday, Moroccans remain the top contributors among non-EU foreign workers in Spain’s social security system. They are followed by Romanians (336,599), Colombians (220,892), Italians (193,162), and Venezuelans (170,925).
The total number of foreign workers enrolled in Spain’s social security system reached 2,880,818 in December 2024, marking a 7.9% increase compared to 2023. This translates to an additional 212,042 active participants in 2024.
Among the total foreign contributors, approximately 1,986,146 came from non-EU countries (69%), while 894,672 originated from EU nations (31%).
Additionally, 72,376 Ukrainians were registered in the social security system, an increase of 25,117 from January 2022 (+53.1%), largely due to the ongoing war.
