The World Bank forecasts a 3.9% growth for Morocco’s economy in 2025, compared to 2.9% in the previous year. The latest Global Economic Prospects report, released on January 16, 2025, attributes the slowdown in 2024 to a decline in agricultural production caused by drought.

The report anticipates significant economic improvement in 2025, with growth reaching 3.9%, before slightly declining to 3.4% in 2026. These forecasts are based on the assumption of improved climatic conditions, which would boost agricultural output.

The Moroccan government, in its 2025 Finance Law, projects economic growth of 4.6%, assuming a cereal harvest of 70 million quintals, compared to 31.2 million quintals in the current season.

Meanwhile, Bank Al-Maghrib expects a cereal harvest of approximately 50 million quintals, considering the climatic conditions prevailing since October 2024. Abdelatif Jouahri, the central bank governor, noted in December 2024 that the forecasts are based on the average cereal production of the past five years.

The World Bank report also highlights water scarcity as a major challenge for Morocco. Persistent dry conditions could reduce water supplies, negatively impacting several economic sectors.
