Discussions on the Celebration of Eid al-Adha in Morocco
Debates continue in Morocco over the possibility of celebrating Eid al-Adha this year, despite the time remaining before the event.
This uncertainty stems from the reserved stance of the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, who avoided giving a clear answer to the question: “Will the celebration take place or not?” posed during a parliamentary session.
To address potential challenges related to livestock availability, Moroccan authorities have started granting licenses to import livestock from several countries, notably Australia, known for the quality of its herds and competitive prices.
Despite the geographical distance, a new protocol agreement has been signed between Morocco and the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council to facilitate the export of Australian livestock to the Kingdom.
Logistics remain a significant challenge, particularly regarding transportation duration, which must not exceed eight hours. Consequently, negotiations are underway with some countries to establish landing points and temporary holding areas before final transportation to Morocco, ensuring the quality and safety of the livestock.
The fate of Eid al-Adha in Morocco this year hinges on these efforts and government measures, as citizens eagerly await clarity.
