Police Operation: Network Dismantled in Aït Melloul
On the evening of Monday, January 20, the judicial police of the regional security commission in Aït Melloul apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in illicit activities. These include possession and trafficking of « Meskir » (homemade alcohol), handling unsafe consumer goods, and counterfeiting well-known trademarks to distribute fake products.
The first suspect was apprehended in the El Mazar district of Aït Melloul. A search of his residence led to the discovery of 20 liters of « Meskir » and 350 kilograms of red chili powder of unknown origin, stored in unsanitary conditions.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect. A search of his home revealed one ton of « Meskir » ready for distribution, along with 400 kilograms of fermented substances used in its production.
The operation also uncovered a clandestine factory producing counterfeit cleaning products. Authorities seized numerous filled plastic bottles and hundreds of fake labels for a registered trademark. Two additional suspects involved in this illegal activity were arrested.
One of the suspects was found to be wanted under four national arrest warrants issued by the judicial police in Oujda for financial and economic crimes. All suspects are currently in custody under judicial supervision as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the criminal network and its potential national implications.
