Despite statements from Mustapha Baitas, the government spokesperson, reassuring citizens about the availability of consumer goods as Ramadan approaches, high prices continue to burden consumers. This situation exacerbates the decline in citizens’ purchasing power, a trend that has worsened in recent years.

In a previous address, Baitas reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of all essential goods during Ramadan. He emphasized that the government remains vigilant to maintain market supply.

Baitas explained that the government is actively combating inflation, which has shown a slight decrease, except for two specific items. He attributed inflation to several factors, including consecutive years of drought, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the reduction in national livestock numbers.

He further highlighted that the government has allocated a significant budget to fight inflation. According to him, Morocco is the only country globally supporting production chains to this extent. He asserted that without government measures such as social support for vulnerable groups, implementation of social dialogue commitments, subsidies for agricultural inputs, the compensation fund, and transport aid during certain periods, the economic situation would be even more challenging today.

Finally, Baitas touched on the government’s monitoring measures in 2024, noting that some market violations are still undergoing legal proceedings in court.
