Last Friday, the Mohammed VI Complex for Culture, Arts, and Sports in Chefchaouen hosted the first national meeting on media and national issues. The event, organized by the Tétouan Regional Branch of the Moroccan National Press Syndicate, brought together journalists, experts, and local officials.

Under the theme “Tourism: Reality, Prospects, and Marketing Strategies,” the event aimed to foster dialogue on national issues and the role of media. It also sought to strengthen collaboration between media and tourism stakeholders to develop a roadmap for boosting tourism in the Chefchaouen region.

The meeting highlighted the importance of media as an effective tool to market tourist destinations, particularly Chefchaouen, a prominent Moroccan tourist hotspot. Supported by local authorities and regional councils, the event underscored a commitment to initiatives that elevate the region’s status as a leading national and international tourist destination.

In his opening speech, Abdelkabir Khachichen, president of the Moroccan National Press Syndicate, emphasized the need for civic journalism addressing national issues. He called for modernizing traditional media approaches to adopt a competitive digital narrative capable of countering disinformation campaigns targeting Morocco’s territorial integrity.

Human rights lawyer and activist Noufel El Bâamri highlighted the successes of official and parallel diplomacy in defending national causes, while Mustapha El Abbassi, regional secretary of the syndicate, stressed the strategic role of media in this effort.

Participants also explored tourism sector challenges and innovative promotional strategies. The event featured thematic workshops and field visits to Chefchaouen and its surroundings.

The event concluded with tributes to prominent media and human rights figures, including Abdelkabir Khachichen, presenter Fadwa El Marabet, and Noufel El Bâamri.
