Public Sector Doctors Intensify Protests Against Government Policies
The National Office of the Independent Union of Public Sector Doctors (SNISPG) has escalated its protest actions, announcing nationwide strikes, a « Week of Anger, » and regional demonstrations. This comes as a coalition of six healthcare unions suspended their protest plans following an evaluation of a meeting with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
Despite favoring dialogue with the ministry, the union accused the government of undermining gains, citing a « flawed » draft of the general framework, lack of guarantees for maintaining civil servant status, and failure to implement previously agreed financial terms.
In a statement, the union condemned the « catastrophic state of public health, » criticizing the absence of a clear political vision or roadmap to address systemic issues. Planned protests include a national strike from January 28–30, suspension of consultations in diagnostic centers from February 3–7, and a « Week of Anger » from February 3–9, alongside other ongoing actions.
The union reiterated its commitment to protecting doctors’ dignity and improving working conditions, urging the government to engage seriously with their demands to prevent further deterioration of the healthcare sector.
