Strengthening Ties Between Morocco and Belgium
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, has warned against attempts by certain entities to exploit the Moroccan community in Belgium. He emphasized that such exploitation would not benefit either Morocco or Belgium.
During a joint press conference with Belgian Foreign Minister Bernard Quintin on Thursday, January 29, 2025, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s responsibility in the fight against illegal immigration, stating that this issue remains a top priority for the Kingdom.
He highlighted that the Moroccan diaspora in Belgium respects local laws and contributes to the country’s cultural diversity. Additionally, he reiterated Morocco’s firm commitment to combating illegal immigration and human trafficking networks.
For his part, Belgian Minister Bernard Quintin, on his first visit to Morocco since his appointment, expressed his country’s strong support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue. He emphasized that Belgium considers the autonomy proposal a viable and realistic solution for reaching a final and acceptable resolution for all parties involved.
Quintin also praised the progress in bilateral relations between Morocco and Belgium, which have seen significant development in recent years, particularly after the convening of the high-level joint commission.
He highlighted the strong security cooperation and promising economic opportunities between the two nations, calling for further strengthening of this strategic partnership.
Regarding international matters, the two officials discussed the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, stressing the need to enhance stability and security in the region.
