Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated on Monday that relations between Spain and Morocco are currently at their strongest level ever. The trade volume between the two countries has reached €24 billion, making Morocco Spain’s third-largest trading partner, after the United States and the United Kingdom.

Albares praised the bilateral cooperation, emphasizing that it is highly regarded by European partners, particularly in counterterrorism efforts and monitoring irregular migration flows.

Regarding Spain’s relationship with Algeria, the minister noted that diplomatic ties between the two nations are progressing normally. He highlighted that the Algerian ambassador returned to Madrid over a year ago, while the Spanish ambassador never left Algeria.

Economically, he stated that trade relations between Spain and Algeria have resumed and are developing positively, following Algeria’s decision in November to lift trade restrictions imposed after a diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

The year 2024 witnessed a strengthening of the Spain-Morocco partnership in all areas, reaffirming the strategic nature of this relationship, which is built on mutual respect, friendship, and solidarity. This growing cooperation reflects the genuine desire of both nations to enhance their joint efforts, particularly in the context of co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal.
