Between February 3 and 9, a total of 27 people lost their lives, while 2,873 others were injured, including 103 seriously, in 2,126 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the main causes of these accidents were driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, unauthorized lane changes, loss of vehicle control, failure to obey stop signs, turning without signaling, driving on the wrong side of the road, dangerous overtaking, running red lights, driving in a prohibited direction, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Law enforcement recorded 53,792 traffic violations, issued 9,394 reports submitted to the public prosecutor, and collected 44,398 fines totaling 9,842,200 dirhams.
Additionally, 5,305 vehicles were impounded, 9,394 documents were confiscated, and 538 vehicles were immobilized.
