The quantity of coastal and traditional fishing landings at Larache Port reached 898 tons in January, marking a 38% decrease compared to January 2024.
According to a periodic report from the National Fisheries Office (ONP) on fishing statistics at Moroccan ports, the commercial value of these landings also fell by 5%, amounting to 26.11 million dirhams, compared to over 27.6 million dirhams recorded the previous year.
Pelagic fish landings saw a sharp decline of 50%, totaling 580 tons, with an estimated value of 5.78 million dirhams (-40%), compared to 1,151 tons in the previous year.
White fish catches also decreased by 19%, with 53 tons landed, valued at 3.17 million dirhams, compared to 66 tons / 3.65 million dirhams in January 2024.
On the contrary, cephalopod landings increased by 26%, reaching 164 tons, with revenues of 12.51 million dirhams (+39%). Crustaceans also recorded a slight 1% increase, totaling 100 tons, generating 4.63 million dirhams (-14%).
At the national level, ONP reported that the value of coastal and traditional fishing products marketed in January rose by 22%, reaching approximately 1.41 billion dirhams, while their total weight decreased by 13% to 30,429 tons.
