The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday that Morocco is solidifying its position as a rising force in the automotive industry in Africa and the Mediterranean region.

According to the daily, the presence of major automakers such as Renault, Peugeot (Stellantis), and BYD strengthens Morocco’s role as a production and export hub, supplying more than 70 countries, including France, Spain, and Italy.

The newspaper highlighted that Renault’s factory in Tangier, one of the company’s largest plants, has an annual production capacity exceeding 400,000 vehicles. Meanwhile, Citroën’s factory aims to produce 100,000 units by 2027.

Additionally, over 250 suppliers of automotive parts and components have established operations in Morocco, reducing reliance on imports and bolstering the country’s industrial ecosystem.

Morocco’s automotive sector also benefits from free trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, and several African nations, facilitating exports and lowering logistical costs.

Furthermore, Mundo Deportivo highlighted Morocco’s ambition to become a hub for electric vehicle production, with local manufacturing of batteries and electric motors.

According to analysts’ forecasts, the country’s economic growth could reach 5% in 2025 and 2026, reaffirming the dynamism of Morocco’s automotive industry, which now surpasses that of Hungary and Romania.
