Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, stated on Friday evening, during a meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council at the level of heads of state and government, that Morocco remains convinced that a military solution cannot be a viable outcome for the Sudanese crisis.

Leading the Moroccan delegation as a member of the Peace and Security Council, Bourita emphasized that, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, Morocco expresses its full solidarity with Sudan during these difficult times and stands ready to provide all necessary support to help it overcome this crisis.

Morocco also renews its call to support reconciliation efforts between Sudanese parties, prioritize dialogue, preserve national institutions, and avoid any foreign interventions that could exacerbate tensions and undermine regional stability.

The Moroccan delegation strongly recommended implementing a humanitarian truce during the holy month of Ramadan to ensure unrestricted humanitarian aid delivery. This proposal was unanimously adopted by the heads of state and government of the African Union during the meeting.

The minister also commended the initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of the current crisis, preserving Sudan’s unity and institutional cohesion, and containing the destabilizing effects of this conflict on the region.

It is worth noting that this meeting took place on the sidelines of the African Union’s ordinary summit of heads of state and government, scheduled for February 15 and 16.
