Monitoring the Health System Reform in Morocco

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired a meeting this Wednesday in Rabat to monitor the implementation of the health system reform, a strategic project receiving special attention from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.

According to a statement from the Government Presidency, the meeting was attended by several officials, including the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tahrioui, and the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa. The participants reviewed progress in the construction of university, regional, and provincial hospitals, with a total of 64 ongoing projects.

Additionally, the rehabilitation of primary health centers was discussed, with 934 centers already renovated out of a target of 1,439. The establishment of territorial health groups was also examined, with an initial pilot project planned in one of the country’s regions.


The statement highlighted that Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the structural nature of this reform, which goes beyond material and human resources to focus on governance and institutional management challenges.

The Head of Government praised the progress made and called on all relevant sectors to intensify efforts and accelerate the implementation of all aspects of the reform, in line with the High Royal Directives.
