Spanish police have uncovered a secret tunnel connecting Morocco to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, believed to have been used for drug trafficking.

The tunnel, stretching dozens of meters long and reaching a depth of 12 meters, was discovered during a warehouse search in an industrial area of Ceuta.

According to the Spanish Civil Guard, the tunnel is « narrow » and « reinforced with wood, » suggesting it was likely used for smuggling drugs between Morocco and Spain.

Spanish media report that the tunnel is at least 50 meters long and could be even longer, as authorities have not yet determined its exact endpoint.

This discovery is part of an operation targeting criminal networks involved in smuggling hashish into Spain via trucks.

The crackdown resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals, including two police officers, and the seizure of six tons of drugs.

Spanish authorities are working closely with their Moroccan counterparts to identify potential extensions and entry points of the tunnel on the Moroccan side. Searches are ongoing to locate the tunnel’s exact exit in Morocco and determine whether it connects to other tunnels or underground networks.

This discovery marks a significant step in the fight against cross-border drug trafficking between Morocco and Spain and highlights the ongoing cooperation between both countries in this effort.
