World Bank Reaffirms Support for Morocco in Preparing for the 2030 World Cup

The World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Ousmane Dione, reaffirmed today, Wednesday in Rabat, the institution’s commitment to supporting Morocco in its preparations for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

During a meeting with the Minister Delegate for Budget, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Mr. Dione stated: « The World Bank renews its commitment to supporting Morocco in its preparations for hosting the 2030 World Cup, aiming to transform the planned infrastructure investments and projects into key pillars for creating job opportunities, enhancing competitiveness, and fostering economic growth for the Kingdom. »

He also praised the strong cooperation between the World Bank and Morocco, which is reflected in the variety of projects the Bank supports and their notable impact on the country’s socio-economic development. He highlighted the significant efforts made by Morocco in key areas such as social protection, territorial development, and infrastructure.

For his part, Mr. Lekjaa emphasized that the structural reforms and sectoral strategies launched by the Kingdom under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI have helped strengthen Morocco’s economic dynamism and consolidate the foundations of the social state. This progress is largely due to significant advancements in railway and sports infrastructure, social protection, sustainable development, and territorial balance.

He also underscored the importance Morocco places on its preparations for the 2030 World Cup to ensure the optimal utilization of the positive impacts this event will have on growth and development, particularly in sectors such as employment, entrepreneurship, tourism, handicrafts, and transportation.
