Farewell and Burial of Mohamed Ben Aïssa in Asilah

This Sunday in Asilah, after the Asr prayer, the funeral of Mohamed Ben Aïssa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture, took place.

Following the Asr and funeral prayers at the Grand Mosque, the late minister’s body was laid to rest in the mausoleum of Zaouïa Aïssaouia in Asilah’s old medina, in the presence of his family, relatives, and distinguished figures.

The ceremony was attended by several high-profile personalities, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Justice, the Secretary-General of the Government, and other political, cultural, and literary figures.

King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences to the deceased’s family, highlighting his dedication and remarkable career in diplomacy, politics, and culture. His Majesty also praised his role in promoting Asilah’s cultural influence, notably through the establishment of the Asilah Forum Foundation.

Mohamed Ben Aïssa pursued higher education in Cairo before holding key positions. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2007, Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States from 1993 to 1999, and Minister of Culture from 1985 to 1992. Additionally, he was a senator and mayor of Asilah, a city to which he devoted much of his cultural work.
