Fouzi Lekjaa Sweeps FIFA Council Elections for CAF

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, secured a landslide victory in the FIFA Council elections for the Confederation of African Football (CAF), receiving 49 out of 52 votes during the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly of CAF, held this Wednesday in Cairo.

Lekjaa overwhelmingly outperformed his rivals, including Egypt’s Hany Abou Rida, Nigeria’s Gibrilla Hima Hamidou, Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya, and Djibouti’s Suleiman Waberi.

Additionally, Comorian Kanizat Ibrahim won the seat reserved for women. The elected CAF representatives will serve on the FIFA Council until 2029.

This extraordinary assembly was also highlighted by the re-election of Patrice Motsepe as the head of the continental football body.
