Increase in Fishery Landings Along Morocco’s Mediterranean Coast

The volume of fishery products landed at ports and fishing villages along Morocco’s northern Mediterranean coast saw a 9% increase by the end of February compared to the same period in 2024.

According to the latest report by the National Fisheries Office (ONP) on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics, the total volume of landings at these ports reached 3,504 tons in the first two months of the year.

The commercial value of the landed products also grew by 21%, reaching 192.24 million dirhams, compared to 158.78 million dirhams during the same period last year.

However, the volume of pelagic fish landed dropped by 25%, totaling 582 tons with a market value of 8.27 million dirhams (-23%). Conversely, white fish landings increased by 10%, reaching 384 tons, with a value of 16.27 million dirhams (+20%).

Cuttlefish and squid landings saw a significant rise of 21%, reaching 2,293 tons with a value of 153.77 million dirhams (+22%). Similarly, crustacean landings increased by 33% in volume, reaching 177 tons, with a market value of 12.69 million dirhams (+52%).

Additionally, the ONP reported that the value of marketed coastal and artisanal fishery products in January and February increased by 13%, reaching nearly 2.29 billion dirhams, although their total weight dropped by 27%, amounting to 67,644 tons.
