A Historic Milestone in Football Refereeing

Sapr Beramn has made history by becoming the first transgender woman to officiate an international football match.
This groundbreaking moment took place during the UEFA U17 Men’s European Championship qualifiers, where she oversaw the match between Northern Ireland and Montenegro at Seaview Stadium in Belfast. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for Montenegro.
This match was not just a singular achievement for Beramn. She is set to continue officiating international games, including an upcoming match between Montenegro and Kazakhstan on Sunday, further solidifying her presence in top-level refereeing.
Last year, Beramn had already made headlines by becoming the first transgender woman to officiate matches in the Israeli Premier League.
Born in 1994, she began her refereeing career in 2018 in the Israeli men’s top division. Following her gender transition, completed in 2021, she has become one of the most recognized figures in international sports officiating.
