Soaring Agricultural Prices: MP Calls on Government to Act

Amid the sharp rise in agricultural product prices, MP Ahmed El Abbadi has submitted a written question to Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari, seeking clarification on measures to combat speculation and monopolies, particularly regarding onions, which have seen an unprecedented price surge.
El Abbadi pointed out that, despite government assurances, onion and pepper prices—staples in Moroccan cuisine—have skyrocketed, especially with Ramadan approaching. He noted that onion prices range between 10 and 12 dirhams per kilogram, despite sufficient supply and public subsidies.
The MP attributes this situation to speculation and large-scale exports, which neglect domestic market needs. He urges the government to take urgent action to regulate prices and ensure affordable access to essential goods.
