“As If Nothing Happened”: Moroccan Truckers Slam Fake Fuel Price Drops

As fuel prices in Morocco continue to rise, the Road Freight Transport Union has strongly rejected the latest report from the Competition Council, which claimed that nine distribution companies have committed to applying international market price drops to local pump prices.

In a strongly worded statement, the union said the Council’s report is disconnected from reality. Despite the drop in global prices, local fuel prices have barely budged, with reductions described as « mere cents, as if nothing had changed. »

This situation, according to the union, is further worsening the financial hardship of transport professionals, who are already grappling with high operational costs. The union warned that the current conditions threaten the stability of the entire sector.

The statement also accused a quasi-monopoly of controlling fuel pricing in Morocco—an issue previously mentioned in earlier reports by the same Council.

In response, the union is calling on the Moroccan government to intervene decisively, urging it to enforce greater transparency in pricing and to ease the burden on both professionals and ordinary citizens.

This latest pushback is part of a growing wave of criticism directed at Morocco’s fuel market, with increasing demands for in-depth investigations and a complete overhaul of pricing and regulation mechanisms.
