In a direct and unambiguous tone, the United States has reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, putting an end to the uncertainty that marked the previous Biden administration’s stance. With Donald Trump back in office, the American position appears to have returned to clarity and consistency.

From the outset, officials from the U.S. Department of State made it clear: Washington fully supports Morocco’s sovereignty, affirming that the Moroccan autonomy initiative remains the only realistic and credible solution to this manufactured conflict.

This firm stance increases diplomatic and political pressure on the Polisario Front, a separatist movement backed by Algeria, which finds itself increasingly isolated on the international stage.

According to Khalid Chiat, Professor of International Relations at Mohammed I University in Oujda, the U.S. position has been confirmed at least twice: first, through a public statement by the U.S. Secretary of State, and again during the official reception of Morocco’s Foreign Minister in Washington, at the invitation of his American counterpart.

This renewed support not only validates Morocco’s diplomatic approach, but also fuels optimism about resolving a conflict that has lasted for decades in the region.
